Congratulations on your retirement!

You now have the option to convert to a personal health insurance plan with Pacific Blue Cross.

This plan was created specifically for retirees to ensure continuous coverage for health, prescription drugs, and dental expenses – with no medical questionnaire.

To transition to the BCCA Retiree Benefit Plan for your retirement, the retiree must be 50 years or older, have been covered under their group plan for at least 6 consecutive months, be actively enrolled in a government health plan of BC and must apply within 60 days of the date on which their group benefits coverage was cancelled.

BCCA Retiree Plan Coverage

Health

The plan covers 80% of the following eligible expenses:

  • Registered therapists
  • Vision care
  • Medical services and supplies
  • Hospital accommodations
  • Nursing care
  • Ambulance services
  • Accidental dental

The plan covers 100% of the following eligible expenses:

  • Accidental death and dismemberment (maximum payable of $25,000 up to age 70, $10,000 age 71+)
  • Final expense benefit (up to maximum $3,000)
  • Out-of-province, in-Canada travel
  • Survivor benefit

*access to Telus Health, an online health care provider, is included.

Physiotherapists, massage therapists, chiropractors, chiropodists/podiatrists, naturopaths, acupuncturists, osteopaths, registered dieticians $500 combined/year
Speech therapists $45/visit, 10 visits/year
Psychologists, registered counsellors and online cognitive behavioral therapy programs $65/visit, 10 visits/year
Vision Care
Prescription eyewear $250/24 months
Eye exam $50/24 months

Prescription Drugs

Covers 80% of eligible expenses, includes a pay-direct drug card, and aligns with PBC’s BlueRX formulary pricing.

Dental (Optional)

Covers 80% of basic services such as regular cleanings every 9 months and endodontics (root canals). The plan also covers 50% of major services (bridges, crowns, etc.).

Choose from the Essential or Enhanced dental plan. Each plan offers different annual maximum limits.

Frequently Asked Questions About the BCCA Retiree Plan

We have negotiated with the insurer for a competitive retiree plan and preferred rates due to the strength of our membership numbers. There are no broker fees included in the monthly rates and you do not need to complete a medical questionnaire to apply. There is also no age limit for any of the benefits.

If you are retiring, age 50+, covered by Provincial Health (MSP) and have been covered under a group employee benefits plan for at least 6 months, you qualify for this plan.

You must apply within 60 days of the date on which your group benefits coverage was cancelled.

This plan includes health, prescription drug and optional dental benefits.

Travel coverage for medical emergencies that occur within Canada is included under this plan, but travel coverage outside of Canada is not included. You can choose to purchase separate travel coverage through Pacific Blue Cross or another insurer.

If you’re enrolled under the BCCA Retiree Plan, you can save 10% on travel insurance purchased through Pacific Blue Cross.

The cost of the plan varies depending on:

  • your age
  • who you choose to cover under the plan
  • if you choose to include dental benefits

You are responsible for the monthly rate payments as this is an individual plan for retirees.

Yes! You can choose to cover your spouse and/or eligible children under this plan.

Keep in mind that the monthly rates are different for single, couple or family coverage.

You do not need to complete a medical questionnaire to apply for this plan.
